It's nicely balanced, a bit on the sweet side with nice caramel/chocolate/maple syrup notes. That being said, it's very easy to drink, but nothing about it screams amazing. The maple syrup is funnily very Canadian. Without really knowing the mashbill or anything else it's a very inoffensive, very easy drinking bourbon-like whisky. There seems to be a fairly high corn content as it drinks like a very smooth amazingly not too overoaked bourbon. Taste - Sweet vanilla caramels, creamy butterscotch, hints of chocolate covered oranges, very rich/creamy for the lower proof, dark chocolate, maple syrupįinish - Creamy caramels, milky chocolate, light cinnamon spice, chocolate covered Werthers candies, light maple syrup, oakįinal Thoughts - Upon pouring into the glass and the first initial nose, I immediately think of a bourbon with the strong caramel/vanilla notes. Nose - Sweet caramel, vanilla, orange zest, hints of chocolate, toffee Wallet Damage - July 2019 / ~$96 USD per 750mL / (after WA state taxes of 20.5% + $3.77/liter) Pendleton 20 Directors' Reserve 2019 / 40% ABV Anyway, this was a bit of an impulse purchase seeing it at a local Costco for a somewhat reasonable price for fancy packaging and I figured it wasn't horrible for a 20 year aged Canadian Whisky? Regardless, I have no clue what to expect, but hopefully it's decent? It's a beautiful bottle for sure, wrapped in a very nice leather label supposedly created by saddle maker Randy Severe. The label on the neck says Imported & Bottled by Hood River Distillers Inc in Hood River, OR. I think this is my first experience with any Pendleton whisky and I guess it's a very elaborately packaged one? I don't really know much about this one other than it's a 20 year old bottled at 40%.
